Trivia Time! (October 23, 2006)

Trivia Time!

Last time the Wolverines were 8-0: 1997 after downing Minnesota 24 - 3 in the Big House....
Last time the Wolverines were #2 in the Polls: 1997 right before playing Penn State in Happy Valley (Who they crushed 34-8 that very next week)
Last time anyone was this excited about Michigan Football: You Got It! 1997

The Little Running Back That Could (126 yards rushing) got stronger as the game went on and the Iowa defense simply didn't have an answer.....Iowa had held Michigan to under 30 yards rushing in the first half and the offense didn't look good - but then Hart came out in the second half and started to methodically pick them apart.....Quote from Drew Tate, who had played Ohio State a couple of weeks earlier. "They are without question the best defense we have played all season." Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....I think just about every QB who has either stared down the Wolverine Fantastic Front Four or landed flat on their back after the unstoppable rush has curshed them into the turf have probably either thought or said the same thing this year....

So, here we are with three mini-big games, two in the Big House, Northwestern (Who handed a Gift to Sparty - more on that later) and 2-5 Ball State and one on the road at 4-4 Indiana......You have to play them, and you have to win them.....But these teams aren't what we have seen the last six games and chances are the Wolverines are heading for the showdown of showdowns, Game of the Century, One for the Ages.....all climaxing on November 18th in Columbus....Against the Much Hated Sweater Vested Tressel and his band of Hairless Nuts.....With the Loser going to the Rose Bowl.....Think about THAT for a minute Michigan Fans....When was the last time the loser of this Epic Event was guaranteed a spot in the Grand Daddy of them All????? Ever????

Let's talk about those Suckeyes for a moment. Troy Smith has thrown 21 Touchdown passes with only two INT's......for a 68% completion rating.....Michigan has only given up a total 269 rushing yards ALL SEASON and is ranked 5th overall on defense....Talk about Irresistible Force meets Immovable Object.....November 18th - here we come! The Game Day guys, media, and every one who can talk about this game has 4 weeks to do it....Can you say "Build Up?" There is going to be tension extraodinaire come November 17th.....The Evening Before the Greatest College Football Game ever played - This season anyway....

So, Sparty, are you happy with your victory over your arch-rival Northwestern? It would seem so. With the exception of the Flag Plant on the Northwestern Field, I watched you celebrate like you had just won the National Championship. Must feel good to beat a rival like that - and have to come back from 38-3 to do it.....Yep - I know if I was a Sparty today - I would certainly feel good knowing that the win probably helped me make a bowl and keep John "Losing" Smith around for another year.....Hey - wait a minute - YEAH!!!!!!! That is reason to celebrate!!!!!!

Domers - Jeez, I hate you guys...... Once again, a team decides to let Brady "The Not So Mighty" Quinn look like a Heismann candidate by going to a cover 2 prevent and not attacking during the last series of the game....And what happens - a little of that "Sloppy Luck of the Irish" comes out and Smardja scores the winning TD....I hope someone else can beat these clowns - NO ONE, and I repeat, no one (Not even the Domer fans - I'm sure) wants a Michigan or Ohio State vs. Notre Dame rematch - blood letting like we had in last year's Fiesta Bowl and in South Bend this year.....If the Domers are lucky enough to sneak up the standings....but I just don't see how it can happen.....But With the Domers - you just never know......
CORNSUCKERNATION: So - You have the Longhorns by their shorties and you can't hang on to the Football.....Hmmm....Doesn't sound like the Cornsucker Teams of Old - but it does seem to be a recurring theme with the New CornSuckers........I REALLY bet that you wish you would have passed more agains USC and still only had one loss - you might actually be in BCS contention now....
GATORLAND: You had a bye and didn't get much help over the weekend...In fact - I am not sure the Auburn Tigers are even the best SEC West Team there is.....Arkansas is looking Prettttttty -Good against the rest of that division....and probably STILL trying to figure out how they lost to USC 50-14......

By The Way - Everyone is now talking about the possibility - regardless of who wins in Columbus, of having a neutral site Re-match of Michigan-OSU due to the large BCS margin between Michigan-OSU, USC and then the rest of the BCS field.........And if USC loses.....Well - wouldn't that be interesting?

GO BLUE!
GO TIGERS!
