IT'S GREAT -TO BE - A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE! (Sept. 18,2006)

IT'S GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE!

With Apologies to Manfred Mann

Run and fall down, Get up Again,
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn
Throw an interception, Do it again,
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn.
Run and Hide, Do it again,
You'll not see nothing like the Mighty Quinn.
Till next year, when we spank you again,
You'll not see a Heismann for the Mighty Quinn.

There are some things in life that are satisfying, and then, every once in a great while, those satisfying things come in multiples....For example, a first road game victory is sweet and a victory over the Domer is sweet, but when you get both at the same time, it's like having surf and turf (guys) , or getting flowers and chocolate (ladies).....I don't even know where to begin this review, so let's start with some numbers:

1. Michigan still is. They have the highest overall winning percentage of any college football team in the land (0.7449) and the win kept them ahead of the Domers (0.7443)
2. Prescott Burgess' number of interceptions of Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn...
3.(Tie) Total number of Touchdowns thrown by Chad Henne to (and I use this term Loosely because Frank Beckman said it on the Radio - and I am not sure I like it) "Super Mario" Manningham...
3. Total number of Interceptions thrown by Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn..
4. Mike Hart's Rushing Average against an "incredible" Domer Defense...for a total of 120 yards.....
5. (Tie) 5 and 3 - Charlie "Wuzzles" home record in South Bend - and people still think he is the 2nd coming of Rockne.....Also worth noting - Ty "Losingham" started 11-3 at Notre Dame, then fell to 11-4 with a blowout loss to Michigan, and then went 10-12 and got fired.....Charlie "Wuzzles" started 11-3 and is now 11-4 and has suffered the most humiliating home loss in South Bend since Purdue hung 57 on the Domers in 1960....Coincidence????? NOT!!!! Didn't you guys just give him a lifetime contract????
5. 54 yards - I didn't know Woodley could run that far for a Touchdown.....
6. The Number worn by Prescott Burgess and the only guy that was usually open in the mind of Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn - He will probably have nightmares about the number 6 picking off his passes......
7. Chad Henne's Jersey number and numbers - 22-13-1 for 220 yards and 3 TD's......
8. (tie)Times the Notre Dame Broadcasting Announcers mentioned Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn and the Heismann trophy in the same sentence before I quit counting (this is when the MMQ ralphed)....I don't think they are going to be able to do THAT any more....
8. Victories for Michigan in South Bend since the series started....
9. Times the MMQ watched the news conference where Charlie "Wuzzles" stated that this team came in here and kicked our butts.....I don't think he could say "Opened a can of Whup-Ass and ran us out of the stadium....."
10. Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn's number that probably won't be retired now in DomerLand so some other Montana wannabee can wear it.......(I know - JM wore number 3 while in DomerLand - I am just making a point)

Man, what a victory over the Domers (Jeez, I hate these guys). All I can say is that there are times when teams make a statement and then there are times when teams make a big statement.....Granted, if the Amaizing Blue Defense doesn't single handedly score 3 TD's, this is a closer game - but is it really? I mean, did anyone feel after the 1st quarter that the Domers had a chance? With the exception of the before half Domer drive that resulted in a TD as a result of Ron English admittedly calling for a prevent defense and stated it was the wrong thing to do - was there ever a feeling that the Domers could get back in it??? I mean, besides the awful officiating and every close play going to the NBC Replay booth - other than that? I don't THINK so......You know what, let's do an

MMQ Top Ten Reasons why it's so fun to beat the Domers:

10. To hear Charlie "Wuzzles" say "I think it's only right to give just due to your opponent who just kicked your butt."
9. Isn't it more fun on Monday when you win?
8. I don't have to hear any more talk of a Domer National Championship out of the Game Day Guys, ESPN Guys, News Paper Guys....The Notre Dame Broadcasting guys will still talk about it, I'm sure.
7. I don't have to listen to any more Brady "The NOT SO Mighty" Quinn Talk - with the exception of the NBC guys....
6. 70,000 drunk Domer fans sitting quietly on their hands while 10,000 or so LOUD Michigan fans take over the stadium...
5. Watching the game summary all night on ESPN - with glee, I might add.....
4. Seeing the Chad Henne - Mario Manningham 70 yarder as the #1 nomination for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance....(Even though I thought it was the INT's by Burgess that should have received a little love from the Pontiac guys........)
3. Seeing a Wolverine Defense PUMMEL an offense that was supposed to be able to beat many pro defenses.....Again, according to the NBC guys....
2. See Lloyd Carr get his first Gatorade Shower for a regular season game...
and finally
1. JEEZ, I HATE THESE GUYS!

So, what other games were there on Saturday? Let's Review:

Sparty - You beat up on Pitt after going down early and I heard it was another on-side kick similar to what Eastern did that woke you up.....Congrats, but don't celebrate. "Wuzzles" was asked if he would use the Michigan game film as motivation for the game against MSU and "Wuzzles" stated that he only needed one film clip for motivation against MSU....Now, this is just the MMQ talking, but I REALLY don't think you should have planted that flag in DomerLand last year.....That crap comes back to haunt you...And is that the Sparty faithful I hear that is beginning to grow a voice of hope? The one we hear whenever you end up playing Michigan when you bring a winning record to the game??? Sparty gaining courage with each victory? The Sparty Faithful beginning to think that they have a chance at winning enough games to get to a bowl this year? Sounds like it!!!! I can't believe you wouldn't want to just lose enough games to get Mariucci in there so Tom Izzo has a say in the football plays and how the program is run......Come on! Let's get JLS fired? Or a lifetime contract - either one.....More turmoil in Sparty land would be great...

GatorLand - CONGRATS!!!! That was a HUGE SEC Win on the road in the second largest stadium.....Winning in CreamSicle land is tough, much less winning there in a night game with 107,000 drunk - er - DrunkER than usual Volunteers......Keep Winning - next Tests: LSU October 7th and Auburn October 14th.....

Husker Nation - Yep - You are now officially back to CornSuckers.....What the hell - where was that Black Shirt Defense on Saturday? I was expecting great things and you guys really fell flat.....And screwed up my predictions for Saturday......

West Virginia - The Mountaineers keep rolling - Weak East is living up to expectations

Va Tech - Hoakies win beating some compass point school....Oh yeah - Duke...Real tough schedule there - and you wonder why there is no respect in this column for you....

Iowa State - Well, you gave 'em a run, but couldn't deliver the knockout punch to your cross state rivals IOWA.....Lot's of games left and now Nebraska looks vulnerable...

Clemson - FSU - Bowden Bowl goes to the Youth! And Bobby is out of the national Title race and looking for a BCS berth....Probably pull the same stunt as they pulled last year and with the ACC play-off and sneak into a major at 7-5.....

Lousville - Miami - Did Coker get fired yet? Watch the papers this week folks.....
