Cup Cake Saturday! (Sept. 7, 2006)

Let me apologize to all of you that look forward to this e-mail before lunch time on Monday, or in this case, Tuesday lunch. Today was the fist day of Kindergarten for the youngest member of the MMQ's family - and I just couldn't miss that. In addition, it seems our company picked up some sort of virus over the holiday weekend that knocked out our server so that e-mail and internet could not be accessed. Talk about a nonproductive morning......(or more nonproductive than usual....)

But let's review Cupcake Saturday! Otherwise know as the top half of the NCAA football teams take on the bottom half of the NCAA football teams in order to:

A. Give the National Championship potential programs a warm-up game.
B. Give the lower echelon division 1 teams a nice pay-day for getting the snot knocked out of them.....

The Mighty Wolverines did their job.....Yeah, yeah, yeah - it wasn't pretty, there were plenty of coaching points to work on this week with the Chippewas coming to town, yadda, yadda, yadda....... But, a win is a win and this fan, along with many other Wolverine fans, will take 11 more just like it....

Sparty - I feel bad that everyone is badgering you as bad as they are - saying you suck, you stink, you play football like powder-puff girls coached by a ready- for-the-old-coaches-home inept boob, you can't beat a cream-puff like Idaho by more than double digits - all that stuff......Yeah - it makes me feel bad and it really ticks me off because that's MY JOB!.....Damn all those ESPN, FOX, CNN and all the other announcers that were badgering you....I was going to make a complete list of everyone who slammed you, but I ran out of memory on my computer at home......

Cornhuskers - you did your job too and beat LTU - but did anyone see that one handed catch the wide receiver for LTU made for a TD? That was impressive....

Domers - Jeez, I hate these guys....If Georgia Tech's QB Ball would have just kept throwing to Calvin Johnson - I am not sure the Domer's did find a way to defend that guy - they may have pulled off the upset. But as the many Wolverine fans I know keep saying -"just keep winning" - The Maize and Blue want the Honor of knocking you clowns out of the top 5........

Suckeyes - Yes, you won. Impressively. Show me what you can do THIS WEEK. Do you feel the ground moving and hear that noise coming from down south? It's the Student Body and Season Ticket Holders in Austin - they are starting the Tail gate today in order to beat the Number 1 team in the nation and get a shot at that honor for themselves......Be worried, OSU, be worried.......

GatorLand - you did your job - but I want to change my SEC vote. If you didn't see it, the Tennessee dismantling of the California Bears was a thing of beauty.....I mean, you almost started to feel for the Bears simply because everything they tried, the Volunteers were already there.....Tennessee is back and I am not sure I want to be a team that beat these guys last year. They looked pissed....and the Offensive coordinator Cutliffe is back from Ole Miss and it looks like he is going to pick up right where he left off.....By the way, I am also taking California out of my yop 5 and replacing them with USC.....They looked pretty darned good in the thrashing they gave to Arkansas...

Virginia Tech - hey - did you guys know you can win without someone named Vick at Quarterback? Of course, you did play some compass point North Eastern Western Southern Eastern Northern School that has one locker room they share with the visiting team - but hey a W is a W.......

Iowa State Cyclones - You guys like to take things to the wire - in TRIPLE OT no less........Of course, Toledo is probably without a doubt the best, or close to the best MAC team there is, but man.....I want to do some research and figure out how many games in the last two years you have either won or lost by a field goal or less.....But your chances to pull off the impossible and win that division are dwindling....In 2 weeks you have Iowa and then Texas the week after that......Better get better - FAST

Other notable games:

FSU beats Miami - another nail in Coker's coffin. You can bet that there are plenty of Miami fans out there who are expecting an undefeated season similar to USC and they are probably not a patient bunch. It makes for a long season dropping one right out of the gate. Bowden would have weathered the storm, but I am not sure Coker, with a National Championship at Miami under his belt, has the same love of his Miami fans......
