2-2 Finally (Sept. 24, 2007)

"When we do face the difficult times, we need to remember that circumstances don’t make a person; they reveal a person. – Richard Carlson
I have to remember to tell the negative committee that meets in my head to sit down and shut up.
– Kathy Kendall
In my experience, there is only one motivation – and that is desire. No reasons or principles will contain it or stand against it.
– Jane Smiley
Act as if it were impossible to fail.
- Dorothea Brande

Now, I don't know how much of the above stuff the Wolverines use in their every day practice ritual...But I do know that Lloyd Carr is a well read individual and a man of character. And while I don't always agree with him, he does some pretty dumb things, you have to admit that he sometimes allows circumstances to be created that will test the metal of young men as they transform into the men they will become.

Enough Philosophy. The Wolverines (now worthy of the moniker) are a respectable 2-2 after beating what was supposed to be a new and improved Penn State Defense and Offense. Well, I saw pretty much the same team on Saturday that we left laying in a heap down in Happy Valley a year ago. For all the PSU and other casual fans that were popping up stating that there was NO WAY a Michigan team with a Frosh QB could beat this PSU defense and that Morelli was the real deal, well, I have two words for you - Mike Hart. Actually, make that 4 words - Mike Hart, Offensive Line. No, no, make it 5 words - Mike Hart, Offensive Line - DEFENSE!

Yep, everyone looks like they are showing up for games now, and it looks like maybe the national pundits could be right. The Big Ten just isn't that good. How else could Michigan look so dominant against this PSU team? Dominant you ask? We only won 14-9. But, and this is key, it was how we won. Back to old fashion Michigan ways with "Old" Joe Pa and company playing right into our hands - which frankly, I think is a bit wrong on his part. I mean, sooner or later, the legends have to go away and youth must be served. If Joe Pa, now 82, is hanging on just to beat Bobby B., then it's wrong. If not, then come up with a way to beat Michigan....... I have to admit that the Scott fumble couldn't have happened at a better time, but I am not sure that we wouldn't have marched down and scored again if we needed to. And we had enough faith in the D and the ineptness of PSU to give them 1:34 on the clock in the 4th quarter and try to pull a Colorado....Frankly, I was a worried fan. But somehow, I think the team had a whole lot more confidence in themselves than the fans did....So, 1/8 of the Big 10 Championship is in the books....Can the 0-2 Misfits do it? Time will tell.....

I wish the team could have opened with the Domers and PSU, then played App State and Oregon....Interested in seeing if things would have worked out the samy way....

DOMERS - Sparty

Knock-Knock.
Who's there?
Owen.
Owen who?
O-4 !!!!!!!

Wow, Domers. Must feel pretty bad turning your most consecutive losses at home to a returning team over to a Sparty team that, and I don't mean this offensively in any way Sparty, hasn't set too many football records in recent memory....But let's give credit where it's due. The Dough Boy managed to find a way to get his offense into the end zone. Twice.

Whoopee.

It would help if you could hold the other guys to less than 30 once this year. I am just not buying the Tyrone left the cupboard bare anymore. Let's look at this logically - If Wuzzles was a good coach, and he could SEE that he didn't have any talent, wouldn't it have been a perogative to recruit kids in the last two years that could come in and make an impact? Or break with tradition and go get some JUCO players that could at least block and tackle? Well, whatever, it looks like your stuck with the Weasel until he either quits or has a heart attack. I hear that some of the local fans are sending buckets of KFC to the Domer practices addressed to his Greatness. You can relax, though. Up next are Purdue, UCLA, Boston College, and USC - No one expected you to win ANY of those games.....Did someone say 0-8???

Sparty - don't look know, but guess who's in the top 25??? When was the last time that happened? Dantonio - Class act. Could have scored some more and decided that they had punished the Domers enough. And no Flag Planting.....Looks like you can coach character.....7-5 looking very possible now...

Cornsuckers - Gatorland - I knew you guys were Hung Over, looking back and ahead, but come on....I know, you won, that's all that matters. I am a 1AA beaten fan, so I know that all it means is win baby. In 3 months, no one cares.......IF YOU WIN........

Cheeseheads - Anyone else know that Caoch Bielema for Wisconsin was the CAPTAIN of the Iowa Blackbirds in 1992? Obviously, each team wanted that game pretty bad....Good to see the Cheeseheads come out on top because Iowa doesn't play Michigan or OSU......

Les State University - The Ole Ball coach came down with an impressive game plan, and if the Cocks would have held onto some more passes and the rain hadn't started, things might have been closer....but Les and the Tigers are still the team to beat....

App State - Lost to Wofford??? Oh man, here come the Wofford jokes...."Well, if Wofford beat App State and App State beat Michigan, should Wofford be able to win the Big 10????"

Biggest Suprises - Hey Lousville, just because Syracuse sucks, it doesn't mean YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOW UP!!! Man, you guys suck almost as bad as Michigan.....Texas Tech threw for 646 yards on Thursday against Miami - AND LOST......Richty Rich winning in Satan's Stadium with the College Game Day Crew there....I really thought Satan would pull it off....Oh well, at least we won't have to hear from Bama nation this week.....

Hot Seat
Tennessee - Fullmer
Domers - Weasel

Idle thoughts:
How can a team that gets beat by an unranked team still be in the top 25? PSU only fell to 19....And if you beat that team, shouldn't you be ranked ahead of them? Especially if you end up with the same record????
