Mid-Week Round-Up Week #9

Fox Was A BAD Deal…

For Michigan Football Fans:  MGoBlue.com announced on Monday that the Minnesota Game on November 4th will kick at 7:30 PM.   That noise you heard on Monday afternoon was a collective “F@#$%CK!” from the Michigan faithful that has more or less had its fill of night games this season.  (The Fox deal called for Michigan committing to 3 night games over the next two seasons, and with next season’s home schedule, this was the better game?).  Now, it could be nice and balmy or the game could start in the 40’s in a rain storm and with a temperature drop from there…

It’s all about the money…Money, money, money

The Early Forecast from Weather.com

Looks like the rain storm is ahead of nice a balmy…

I’m really starting to dislike the Night Time Kicks for what should be noon games.  But Michigan draws a big TV number. Fans AND Haters want to watch

And The Beat Goes On…

“We’re going to lose to the suckeyes in the worst possible way.  In our own house and by a score that’s going to be WAY WORSE than last time they were here.  This is going to go down as one of Harbaugh’s WORST SEASONS EVER as a head coach of college or pro.”

And that was one of the nicer bits of feedback this week.

Listen:  I know things look bad.  Even the normally very up-beat and blue sky MMQ is having a hard time seeing any sliver lining or having any hope of being competitive with the conference elite moving forward.  My worst fear is dumping one to Maryland, Minnesota or (god forbid) Rutgers along the way.  This team is better than that and the coaches need to figure out a way to move the ball and win the games with what they have.  Stop making these guys try to play like pros and let them play what they can play.  If Michigan isn’t 8-2 rolling into Wiscy, there’ll be problems in Camelot with respect to Harbaugh and his staff.  And let’s not forget you reap what you sow and the 2013-14 recruiting classes weren’t even in the Top 25

Here’s a link to a pretty good round-table in Yahoo Sports analyzing Michigan.  Sort of the same stuff I’ve been saying…

Isn’t it time for Peters? (redux)

Harbaugh stated he was getting ready to put him in against PSU at his Monday Presser.
Again, how can it possibly be any worse? FFS, Michigan is tied for 4th in the East with Rutgers!   Unless Peters is a complete disaster and utter bust, ala Drew Henson, which was discussed at AP’s house on Saturday where the Tailgate Crowd convened.  Even though Henson had some good games over the course of the season and a half that he played.  I guess we’ll probably get to see Peters in some sort of fashion against Rutgers, but I wouldn’t count on seeing much.  He’ll be handing off and I doubt they’ll give him too much leash…

What I’d really like to see is a little more creativity in the play calling.  PSU style, thank you.

What Does It Mean For the Future?

It means that the coaching staff either A:  Has their work cut out for them to get to a point of being competitive with the elite of the conference or B:  Michigan suffers for at least another cycle (think good thoughts for 2020 and beyond) before being able to resemble a true top 10 team

That means potentially dropping two to the Domers as well over the next couple of seasons.

Nuts…

Slappy Fan Grief Stage?

I had the Michigan Fan Base in Bargaining on Monday, but maybe the MMQ has taken a short cut and gone all the way to Acceptance.  Each game this season has been one dick-tripping episode after the next and Speight going down was really the icing on the cake.  I knew in the back of my mind that it couldn’t get better (even though the suckeyes found a way with their 3rd string QB to win the National Title) as Speight was the only part of the problem, but he knew things about the offense well enough to perhaps mask some of the holes.  O’Korn is playing as well as he’s going to play right now

In short, it is what it is and Basketball Season starts in 17 days!

CFP – It’s Never Too Early To Play “What IF”

The things I look at and think about in my spare time…

I touched on my list for the CFP on Monday, but what I failed to mention is that the Pac 12’s hopes cling to however the Domers finish the season (and then, maybe not even that).  Yep, you read that right.  If the Domers win out (low probability, but it exists), they will have effectively eliminated any chance that the Pac 12 has of getting a team into the CFP.  1-loss Domer team to Georgia would look way better than what would probably be the worst 1-loss team out there.  A Husky Pac 12 Champ that lost to a Cellar Dweller Arizona school

There are still countless scenarios in play, but that’s one observation.  Another really good question is:

Do the Domers even have a chance?  Assuming for a second that it doesn’t matter who wins the Georgia-Bama Showdown, either of those teams will have a better 1-loss game under their belt than the Domers.  Assuming either PSU, Wiscy, or, at this point based on where they’re ranked, OSU wins out, the B1G has one team in (with or without a loss).  And the Big 12 could either have an undefeated Champ or a 1-loss Champion with an extra data point over a really good team…And if Clemson wins out, they’ll be a champion in the ACC with a really crappy loss to the Cuse, but still a champion (in the league that the Domers partly identify with).   All of this assumes for the moment that the committee learned its lesson last year with respect to PSU and the suckeyes regarding putting the Conf. Champ into the CFP…Or they might just figure it’s time to put two teams from the same conference in (Georgia – Bama).

So are the Domers already doomed even if they win out with a single loss to Georgia by not being in a conference?

But Mr. MMQ, it’s difficult to believe there isn’t a scenario where the Domers get in with 1-loss (to a potential SEC Champion???)

I know, right?  And they can almost be guaranteed a spot if the following occurs:
1.    Clemson DOESN’T Win the ACC.  IF Clemson wins the ACC as the defending NC, I’m not sure the loss to the ‘Cuse hurts them that much in the committee’s eyes.  Anyone else (NC State or Miami – the Domers play both) wining the ACC helps the Domers chances (and give them a victory over ANOTHER Conference Champ!).

2.    Either or both Bama and Georgia lose before the SEC Championship.  Giving the runner up in the SEC 2-losses…meaning that every Domer fan just became a huge Gus Malzhan and Auburn fan

 Stay Tuned!

Forde Rightly Calls Out D’Antoni

I know they beat Michigan and I was going to leave this alone, but somebody called it out for me.  Pat Forde at Yahoo Sports called out the Sparty Coach in the Forde Yard Dash this week.  This is bush-league, even for the Italian Stallion….

COACH WHO SHOULD RIDE THE BUS TO WORK

Mark Dantonio (39), Michigan State. Taking the bus is the safest mode of transport for Dantonio if he wants to be safe from the next moving violation committed by his running back, LJ Scott, who was arrested last week after a seventh driving-related offense – most of them stemming from a suspended license. Dantonio, whose program has had a lot of garbage flowing through it recently, laid the hammer on Scott on Saturday by making him sit out one entire offensive series against Indiana. As a colleague noted Saturday night, after Scott scored the final touchdown in the victory over the Hoosiers, “Never forget that Dantonio was a Jim Tressel guy.”

Who’s Gonna’ Sing First?

NCAA Hoops has been unusually quiet in the aftermath of Pitino’s disastrous interview, the UNC Getting Away With Murder and the FBI arrests.  It’s been like 4-5 days since anything newsworthy has happened, leading me to believe we’re in for something juicy in the next couple of days.

It could be this guy, Rashan Michel, turning evidence on everyone to keep his butt out of the slammer.

Everything about him reads, “ME, ME, ME”

I dunno... all looks pretty grey to me.
