Feagin Gone

Okay, for what it's worth, this is just another player in a long line of players that have either left of their own volition or been shown the door. However, it's the sheer AMPLITUDE of players that this has happened to in the last 12-18 months.

Let's look at the list. (Granted, some of these players wouldn't be on the roster THIS YEAR, but they left early none the less):

1. Wermers - but was academically ineligible
2. Feagin - QB that moved to slot...I think he was making a difference.
3. Boren - Legacy that transferred to OHIO STATE
4. McGuffie - Definite Impact Player
5. Mallet - Probable Starter that transferred to Arkansas
6. Tony Clemons - Slot receiver with 16 catches for 106 yards last year
7. Arrington - Enough said
8. Manningham - same

I think there's more, but this is what I remember.....

thin ice:

Kevin Grady - enough said.....

Now. Any of these singularly aren't that big of a story, but when you add it all up, it's a big story. AS in "What the hell is going on in Ann Arbor?"

So, what do you make of it? I figure some of it is going on all the time with lesser names and we just never heard about it much before. But with a team that looked anemic at times last year, I would think you would want anyone with a pulse that could pull on a jersey to hang around if you have invested the time and effort into them. Academic ineligibility is a whole other issue, and maybe Wermers should be off the list.

I am sure more detail will come out on Feagin, but it's the fact that Michigan has fallen into a quagmire of who's left and will they be any good discussions that has me really irritated. For years, I never thought we would become like the Domers, the Cornsuckers, FSU, Miami, etc....Yet here we are.

Is that to say that the Sport of College Football is just what it is without character checks any more? I don't know, but it makes me truly worried for what might come out of Ann Arbor for the next 3-4 years. Unfortunately, Rod is the coach and I doubt he is leaving anytime soon and we won't be looking to can him anytime soon and assume the cost of his contract and another Head Coach...Michigan will muddle through, I suppose.

It's simply not what it used to be.

2009 Pre-Season Spectacular!

Over the years, I have to admit that I indulge myself and will take an afternoon or evening and go back and review many of my earlier posts from prior years to get the "feel" of the MMQ back. I must say that there is a definite rise and fall in emotion when Michigan is winning and when it's "REALLY SUCKING". However, after having seen this phenomena and realizing that last season was sort of a non-season for Michigan and I hid a lot of my critiscm for the coach, the team and the athletic department behind the pictures of hot babes, I realized that the overall content may have actually gotten a little better. More concise. Sharper points. Not so much humiliation of other teams....In other words, A LITTLE BORING! Except for the hot chick thing...Yes, there will be more chicks and Hot Seat Mascots. Thanks for the comments. I know you're at least looking at those.

But, in the famous words of one Bob Ufer, you can bet your Maize and Blue bottom dollar that I will not let the spirit of the MMQ die along with the Michigan team! I will make a difference and I will continue to provide insightful commentary on all of the other really bad teams out there that aren't Michigan!

That being said, I once again want to say welcome to everyone reading in different countries, so

"Konnichi wa", "Wie Gehts", "Hola", and "Eh"! Yes, this now goes north of the border. I guess they say "Hello" in Canada, but "Eh" looks better.

Let's get right down to it:

1. Michigan. They're gonna suck. But MMQ, WHY? It's pre-season when hope Springs Eternal! All the skies are Blue and the Sun is Maize....Why do you think they are going to be so bad???

Here's Why:

Millen Supports Rich Rod

That's all we need...Losers seem to run around supporting each other. If Rich Rod comes out and says Millen was unjustly canned, then we will have proof. But I digress.

I have heard so many great things about Forcier that I figure he must A. Be really good and he's going to get hurt in his first play from scrimage or B. Not be very good and turn into an overhyped Brady Quinn or something similar.....God, I only hope it's A and not B.

Pre-season Prediction:

Western Michigan: Seeing has how we lost to Toledo last year, we have to take every MAC team seriously. In fact, I think we have to take every high school team seriously. Western is coming off a decent year (9-4) with a victory over the aforementioned Toledo. I think this will be a tough opener. However, I hope that with a better Defense and an improved offense, Michigan slips by the Broncos. 31-20
Notre Dame (JEEZ I HATE THESE GUYS!): Okay. So, we have the Domers at home in Revenge game (NOTE: We have a LOT OF REVENGE GAMES THIS YEAR). Under "Normal" conditions, I would put this as a W for the Wolverines. Unfortunately, "Normal" and "Wolverines" haven't been two words that have collided in the same sentence a lot over the last 18 months. Based on this and Notre Dame predicting a "Breakout Season" for Clausen, well, this one will be close. Michigan 24, Domers, 26.
Eastern Michigan: This should be a no brainer, but again, see App State and other games from LAST YEAR. Michigan 17 - EMU 13.
Indiana: See Eastern. But know they have greatly improved under Lynch. Thigpen is FINALLY gone and they will have new QB and running backs....But who knows really? Michigan notches a win in it's first big 10 game. Michigan 28 - Indiana 17
MSU: Road Trip! Finally, Wolverines have a game on the road. Against Sparty. Who is going to be better than Michigan this year. Probably. Michigan 17-MSU-20
IOWA: Ugh.....Back on the schedule. Another team that there is no joy in defeating, but great turmoil in losing to...I am sure that Ferentz will have the hawkeyes ready as Michigan begins their Big 10 skid.... Michigan 16 - IOWA - 28
Deleware State: Do I need to review this one? If were going to pay little, piss-ant schools to come and lose here, can't we just chalk it up as a W that we bought and paid for? Can't we?
Michigan 54 - Deleware State - 50
Penn State: Joe Pa has to be enjoying the Rod Era.....PSU will come in to the House looking to do the same thing they did last year. Michigan 17 - PSU 45
Illinois: Zooky and the Juice will look to repeat at home in front of all the Champaign faithful...Figure Michigan to be injured from the PSU shellacking. Michigan 17 - Illini 35
Purdue: Well, we may be able to give these guys some competition. Home in the HOUSE playing for pride is always a motivator. Michigan 24-Purdue 23
Wisconsin: Talk about your revenge games. You can bet that the Cheeseheads have not forgotten that they were one of the few teams that lost to Michigan last year. And they will be pissed. Michigan 13-Wisconsin 30
OSU: Well. Once again, it looks like it will be more than a year before we can successfully sing the victors after a win against OSU. Unless something happens and we can pull off the impossible, I don't think this will be the year. But it will hopefully be closer than last year. Michigan 17 - OSU 20.

I searched and searched for the 6th win that would make us bowl eligible and while you can argue several of these games, the problem with Michigan as everyone knows is that they will somehow lose one they were SUPPOSED to win and negate any surprises they can pull on somebody.

I have a feeling we have entered into the latter part of Nebraska Football under the Callahan years where everyone was going to get their digs in on the Conrhuskers while they were down....And everyone did.

BIGGEST ISSUE/CONCERN: Please note that the Rod will have STILL NOT DEFEATED THE BIG 3: MSU, DOMERS, or OSU. That will be an 0-6 record for the Rod against those teams. Can he survive the press and fans if that comes true? My guess is no...no matter how close the games are.

2. DOMERS - Somehow, this is one game on the Wolverines schedule that I thought they could steal and I actually had it in there initially as a victory. But then I started to realize that with a Frosh QB and a defense that plays like a screen door on a battle ship, I better do the wise thing and chalk it up as a loss. But, there is always a chance that we find a way to win this one. As for the rest of the Domer's schedule, I don't see them getting to 9 wins this year. It will be tough. Realistically, more like 7 or 8.

3. FLORIDA GATORLAND: Yes, yes. Pre-season number 1 consensus and will battle Texas Shorthorns for the National Title. Wouldn't it be nice if these two could meet in the 1st or 2nd game so we could see them play before they get to their leagues? I would enjoy it...

4. Texas Shorthorns: McCoy and company are back and will be pissed after the snubbing they were given last year. I feel a little sorry for the rest of the Big 12. I have a feeling Texas is taking a no prisoners approach this year.

5. USC Rubbers: Always tough, always good. Carroll, however, may be lossing some edge and will have an untested QB, if there is such a thing at USC.

6. Satan's Warriors: A bit of a surprise last season. This season might prove to be a little tougher for the Tide...My guess is they will struggle and lose one or two in the middle.

7. Suckeyes: Tressel is due for one of those "Oops, we were having a great year right up to the point where we crapped our pants in this game...." seasons. Could be a 10-3 season with a bowl loss...

8. LMU: Will Les make up for last year's mess? It's the SEC where lives, egos, and coaches sometimes get checked at the door in order to succeed regardless of what the schools are paying them. Another 7-5 or even 8-4 campaign and the fans may beg Michigan to take him.

9. Laters: Stoops had a better year than he should have last year and expect someone to catch the Laters a little off gaurd. New Year's day bowl. But with a 9-3 record.

10. Cremesicles: Didn't get to write about this team much last year. Lane Kiffin should change that. Whether he can change the record is the big question....

11. HOAKIES: Look out...somehow Beamer took a rookie team to the Orange Bowl and won. Can they be back for a second year with a stellar record? 10-2 with possibilities...

Coaches HOT SEAT: You know, I hate to do a re-run, but it got so many comments last year that it's worthy of a second look:

So many coaches got canned last year, that it bears bringing out the list of who was let go...

GONE LIST

1. T. BOWDEN – GONE
2. Fullmer – GONE – Quit before he could get CANNED….
3. Wilingham – GONE ….Another one bites the dust..
4. AMSTUTZ (Toledo) – GONE After Beating Michigan, he gets CANNED.
5. Brent Guy – UTAH STATE – GONE
6. Robinson – Syracuse – GONE
7. CHUCK LONG – San Diego State – GONE
8. Jeff GENYK – Eastern Michigan – GONE
9. JOE GLENN – WYOMING – GONE
10. TWOTONE - We’ll miss you….

The obvious ones that escaped last year but the fire will only get hotter for this year as schools give the new coaches the "3 years" they need to get their programs rolling....

1. Wuzzles. Beating Michigan and MSU only get you so far. He needs a "W" over USC and UCLA.
2. Zook. Illinois has to believe they're getting better than where Zooky can take them.
3. Spurrier - He's either gonna quit or maybe get shown the door. Too old to keep trying...
4. The Rod - Yep, heat is gonna get turned up at least a notch or two. Maybe more. If he goes O-fer against MSU, Domers and Suckeyes, expect a tense week or two in late November with Marting giving him full support.
5. Bill Martin and Mary Sue: Still here and still wondering why.

Don't expect to see as many administrations dropping the ax in the current economic conditions. No one can afford to pay two salaries when things are bad. I would expect there to be a lot less head chopping and more "administration" support when it comes to chopping heads....

Most surprising Non-Hires:

1. Tommy Tubberville: I would have thought that he would have surfaced somewhere. But where? I guess that's the question he is waiting to answer, too.
2. Tommy Bowden: A good guy, just a lousy fit with Clemson. Of course, Terry never coached again, either, after being booted from Auburn.
3. Willingham: Class guy with incredibly bad luck.

PRE-SEASON TOP 10:

1. Florida

2. Texas

3. Oklahoma

4. Alabama

5. USC

6. Okie State Cowboys

7. Va Tech

8. OSU

9. PSU
10. LSU
National Title: I know, this sounds and looks so regular, but how can you not like Texas and Florida playing for all the marbles?

DARK KNIGHT: Bosie State and Utah Utes both make a run and finish with undefeated records and you have to put someone in the Championship Game after the Utah win against Satan and Boise's win against Oklahoma and everyone else has at LEAST ONE REGULAR SEASON LOSS...This alone would get us to a play-off faster than anything else I can think of - so it's a good thing!

Fifteen Plays - The Bad and The Good

I read the mgoblog pretty regularly and Brian posted and "Oh, what if...." blog recently that got the MMQ to thinking about which plays or moments in Michigan History that stuck with me that I would love to have a do-over on.....Brian's 10 appear here first and my additions appear after. But I also added 15 that I would Love to RELIVE AGAIN! for the sheer enjoyment of the moment and the sensation I had when it happened...

10. Michigan v Nebraska, 2005 Alamo Bowl – Steve Breaston is RIGHT THERE and you don’t flip the ball to him? Oh Ecker. I would go back and have you make one little pitch. Although this game had no global impact or anything, it would’ve been nice to beat Nebraska.
9. Michigan v Northwestern, 2000 - Did we really deserve to win this game? Probably not. But we certainly would have but for one little fumble, almost an unforced error by Anthony Thomas (one of my favorite players.) If he just puts both arms on the ball in the waning minutes, Michigan wins an odd Big Ten shootout.
8. Michigan v Michigan State, 1990 – We got jobbed on the 2-pt conversion. If Desmond can hold on for just another .5 seconds, it’s good. This game marks my first sports bet. It, um, wasn’t my last.
7. Michigan v Ohio State, 2006 – How many plays in this game could’ve gotten us a victory? I’ll focus on 2, though both involve the same player, Shawn Crable. Crable had Beanie Wells for a loss in the backfield, and let him get by for 7. Then he gets the infamous penalty on Troy Smith, and if his head were just a few inches lower he’s probably in the clear and we have a shot at the win. This game isn’t on the list as a guaranteed win, but I’d just have liked to see us with the chance at the end. That’s why it isn’t higher.
6. Michigan v Texas, 2005 Rose Bowl – Vince Young loses if Dusty Mangum’s FG attempt is blocked. I forget which defender it was, but one Wolverine was literally an inch or two from blocking it. It certainly appeared to me that if he didn’t touch the football, he felt the breeze on his hand as it went by. Would’ve been nice to have won this one, and we were maybe an inch away.
5. Michigan v ND, 1990 – This game was on ESPN Classic the other day. Michigan was leading by 28-14 in the 4th quarter and driving deep in Irish territory. I’m thinking, how the hell did we lose this game? Then Elvis tossed a bad interception to Michael Stonebreaker, and the rest is history. If that ball is just tipped or dropped, or sails over his head, we kick a FG and win easily. Sigh.
4. Michigan v ND, 1988 – Mike Gillette’s field goal attempt sailed wide by inches. Lou Holtz goes on to win a MNC, and I generally hate life for awhile. This one was personal, though Michigan only lost 2 games (and tied Iowa) and had a great season.
3. Michigan v Appalachian State, 2007 – Shawn Crable, can’t you just block the guy? Seriously? Or Steve Brown, can’t you just tackle the guy in the first quarter? Really? Truth is you could probably pick 10 plays from this game an inch here or there and it goes the other way.
2. Michigan v Iowa, 1985 - If that damn field goal at the end misses, or one Wolverine hand gets on it, chances are Michigan wins a National Championship for Bo a year after going 6-6. Yes, Michigan tied Iowa, but I personally believe that if we’d topped Iowa we’d have beaten Illinois. Just the impact of that game alone warrants being very high on this list, but for me personally, well. We all have that first loss when you’re old enough to know what’s really going on and you’ve developed enough of a passion that it *matters*. This was that game for me personally. It hurt. A lot.
1. Michigan v Colorado, 1994 - I don’t even really have to say which play, do I? It would be nice to avoid sitting there in the stands for a half hour after the game just looking at the crumpled up freebie program and thinking about the meaninglessness of existence. Feel free to share your own, I'm sure I've forgotten a ton. And please let me know if you have a time machine I can borrow.

MMQ's Additional Top 5 Do-Overs:

11. MIAMI vs. Michigan at the Big House 1988 - After beating Vinne Testaverde in 1984, this looked like another win in the 3rd quarter...But the Jimmy Johnson Referee juggling call changed the outcome - for sure. If we get that call, the game ends differently.
12. Michigan vs. Auburn Sugar Bowl 1983 - Triando Markaray doesn't step out of bounds at the 32 yard line and tries to get an additional 5 yards for Ali Haji Sheik to attempt a field goal that would have beat Auburn 10-9 (Score was 9-7) in the Sugar Bowl. Auburn never drove the ball past the Michigan 25 yard line that entire game and Michigan had one TD and could have won the game if we had the chance to kick. This one hurt a lot as we were in control of the game the whole way...
13. MSU 2001 - Sparty Bob and the 1 second clock....Enough said....
14. Michigan USC Rose Bowl 1977 - If the REF COULD JUST SEE THE CHARLES ROGERS FUMBLE Michigan wins their first Rose Bowl for Bo. I remember this one like it was yesterday. Even the announcers were baffled that they had called a TD.
15. Arizona State vs. Michigan Rose Bowl 1986 - If we could have just completed a pass and scored one more TD, Cooper would have lost ANOTHER game to Michigan. This one hurts 'cause it was my first Rose and I wanted a win pretty bad.

15 Games I would LOVE TO RELIVE FOR THE FUN OF IT!

1. Michigan-OSU 1997 - Yep. Number 1 on the list. Not the Rose against Washington of the same season when we clinched the national title. This game had everything. OSU was a capable team. Potential Heismann winner Charles Woodson and a gritty offense. Cold November day that sent chills down your spine from the great plays and the cold. MMQ's Brother in Law calling the Woodson return before it happened. Wife and her crew sneaking into the game in the 4th quarter without tickets to join in the celebration. Perfect day.
2. Michigan - OSU 1985 - First OSU game in the Big House as a student. Jimmy Harbaugh goes under center and launches a 4th quarter 77 yard TD pass to John Kolesar who makes the catch and scampers directly to the student End Zone which goes bezerk. Another great game that had everything.
3. Michigan-OSU 1986 - Jim Harbaugh prediction game. I wasn't at the game (it was in Columbus), but we watched it in the Washtenaw Ct. apartment on Campus. Great game and room mates make for a memorable experience. While I would love to relive this game, I am not sure my liver could handle it.
4. Michigan vs. MSU 2004. - Triple OT. I only wish I had worn a sweatshirt or at least taken one into the stadium with me. The weather was hot and 80 degrees when we went in and it dropped at least 30 degrees before it ended. But what a game.
5. Michigan PSU 2005 - Mario Mannigham from Chad Henne. This one was fun because PSU was undefeated and Michigan was bad....I mean bad. But they won it in the closing seconds with the pass for the winning TD...
6. Michigan PSU 2002 - Sorry Penn State, but this was another great game that Michigan won in their first ever OT game in the Big House. Another satsifying win under the lights.
7. Michigan-USC Rose Bowl 1987 - We beat Rodney Pete and bring home the Roses! Satisfying win in Pasadena at the 2nd attended Rose Bowl.
8. Michigan-Notre Dame 1986: In enemy territory, we Road Tripped to the MUCH HATED DOMER LAND for the Lou Holtz Innauguration into the Michigan Notre Dame series. Michigan won a close game and raucous celebration ensued.
9.Michigan Notre-Dame 1991 - The Catch. Elvis to Desmond on 4th down from the Domer 25...Desmond stretches out and makes a circus catch that starts his road to the Heismann.
10. Michigan vs. Washington State Rose Bowl 1998 - Sitting at the HogsBreath saloon in Key West nursing one of the more memorable hangovers I've ever had, we witnessed Michigan clinch the National Title! Celebration on Duvall Street afterwards as multiple Michigan fans gathered and sang the victors while I hoisted the flag. Not a bad way to spend New Year's day if you couldn't be in Pasadena.
11. Michigan vs. Notre Dame 2003 - 38-0. This game was hyped and it was only a 3 point spread. Yes, a 3 point spread. Losingham's innauguration was an embarrassment...but the game and day was extremely satisfying.
12. Michigan-Nebraska 1985 Fiesta Bowl - Nobody picked Bo, Harbaugh and Jamie Morris to beat the Cornhuskers that year. Nobody. In fact, we were big underdogs in that game. One of Bo's better games.
13. Michigan-PSU 1983 - Michigan goes into Happy valley with 2 losses and the PSU faithful already have the ROSES OUT! I'm a junior in high school and I am glued to the set and they are showing the PSU fans on TV celebrating at their pre-game tailgates like it's a done deal. Keith Jackson, long time ABC announcer and closet Michigan fan makes a simple statement, "Folks, it's still Michigan." Michigan goes on to beat Joe Pa, which has become sort of an annual tradition, to welcome him to the Big 10.
14. Michigan-Iowa 1997 - The greatest comeback in Michigan history and becomes the foundation for the National Title run. Great game with emotional swings - I remember being angry and bummed at halftime and then I was totally elated in the 4th quarter....and finally:
15. Michigan-Indiana, 1979 - While I didn't attend the game and it wasn't on TV, I think the reason to want to re-live this day should be pretty clear. Bob Ufer said it all: "Under center is Wangler at the 45, he goes back, he's looking for a receiver...He throws downfield to Carter! Carter has it! Touchdown! Touchdown Anthony Carter!"...and lest we forget - "Johnny Wangler to Anthony Carter will be heard for another 100 years of Michigan Football!" Question is, would I actually want to be at the game or sitting in the living room listening to it on the old radio that was in the hand-me-down "Hi-Fi" set that came from my Grandma and Grandpa listening to the Ufe? That is the question...

I'm Mad as Hell and I'm Going to Bitch About It....And Do Something

For what it's worth:

Looking at this season schedule I can't help but feel I am getting ripped off as a season ticket holder. I look at the level of home competition and I am fed up.

The Large Universities, in an effort to keep the revenues up and healthy, continue to add more home games against unqualified talent - keep your APP STATE comments to yourself. In this way, they get the ticket revenue, parking, concessions, etc. and only have to pay this mediocre opponent a measely $500K for the honor of getting dismantled in the Big House. So instead of putting a premium of say $25-$30 on a ticket to a game I wouldn't mind seeing - like a home and home at Tennessee, Florida or LSU, we get the pleasure of paying $50 to see the likes of Deleware State....Great. Just what I want to do on a Saturday in the middle of a recession is blow $100+ on a game that means nothing to me as a fan. And I couldn't give the tickets away if I wanted to.

Well, I pissed off and I am not going to take it any more. I have decided that I am going to do something I witnessed for years while I was a student at the University of Michigan. I am going to start a movement to let the University and the NCAA know how I feel about this situation.

THE DELEWARE STATE GAME DEMONSTRATION

Open letter to all Season Ticket Holders:

Now is your chance to let the University of Michigan know how you feel about a Division I powerhouse (supposedly) scheduling a home game against Deleware State. I propose that on

Saturday, October 17th - YOU DON'T ATTEND THE GAME.

Enjoy the day doing something else. Don't go to Ann Arbor and fight the crowd. Don't give the University the satisfaction of letting them believe they can rip youoff like this by bringing in what can only be described as an unqualified opponent and charging you $50 per ticket to do it.

Send a message. Don't let them make an additional $1 million on concessions and game programs.

Better yet, I propose that anyone interested in demonstrating and speaking out against this abuse meet in groups at locations in the State of Michigan and have Deleware State Ticket Burning Parties. These can be conducted at bars or restaurants that truly need the revenue and will appreciate the fans. If you get large enough crowds, let the establishments know you're coming and why. Maybe the Universities start to see via the media the voice of the fan and realize the dis-service they are doing to the Traditions of the Game and the Fans that support it.

Let them know that we would prefer to pay a premium for a qualified opponent vs. this disgrace that we will need to witness and will forever be on our record - Win or Lose.

If you don't agree, please go and enjoy the game. I mean no disrespect to your support of Michigan - As I am still a huge supporter of this Great University.

If you do agree, start organizing your group today and get them on board.

Feel free to forward this on to as many fans as you know.

Thanks,

MMQ

BOWL SELECTION

The Bowls Are In

Wow. I didn’t think it would happen again…but it did. This reminds me of Auburn and Nebraska…The BCS has failed us – Again. Sort of. I doubt it will get better any time soon. A team that was beat by another team is going to the National Title game over the team that deserved the shot via head to head match-up.

I am still trying to digest this whole Laters – Shorthorns Conundrum. My mind simply cannot process the information. Texas marched through the heart of their schedule defeating 4 top 10 teams and another one ranked in the top 25 only to lose on a last second play to Tex Tech in Tech’s house….They beat the Laters by 10 on a neutral field…And they are going to the Fiesta Bowl as the runner up in the Big 12. To Play OSU. Which I am sure they will be favored over. Which means that even if they crush the Suckeyes and Oklahoma beats a good Florida team, well, do they use the same logic and give the nod to the Laters because they won better later with more style points?

I am beginning to wonder if the Big 12 is now making amendments to their North-South Charter and trying to put together better solutions if this dilemma should ever rear its ugly head again. I am sure somewhere, this scenario was presented as a what if, but everyone figured it was too remote to be worried about.

Anyway, does this get us any closer to a true National Champion in College Division 1A? Nope. My guess is the AP splits the vote if the Laters and Shorthorns both win. And they should until this mess is cleaned up. Make it controversial and keep everyone talking and no one satisfied….

The Rest of the Mess

LATERS vs. MIZZOU: It was a game in the first half, then the LATERS just started pounding and pounding. Chase Daniel and company just couldn’t stay with these guys…

SATAN vs. GATORLAND: This one was actually closer than I expected, frankly. I really thought Gatorland, Tee-Bone and Urban Legend would make it a rout to insure the nod for the title game. Satan’s Tide hung tough, but the Gator D was too much.

HOKIES vs. BC: Hokies win, thus ensuring that the Orange Bowl will include another double digit BCS ranking team. That one will be fun to watch….

USC vs. UCLA: Pete Carroll and the Rubbers can’t seem to get any style points against their cross town rivals. They ought to think about rescheduling them earlier in the year…

BCS STANDINGS:

1. LATERS: Really? Lose to another team in your own division and play for the National Title? All Right! Why doesn’t the Big Ten have divisions yet? Oh yeah, because the DOMERS SUCK! (Jeez, I HATE THESE GUYS!)
2. GATORLAND : Who will Tee-Bone Vote for with his Heismann vote? Do you really think there’s a question here?
3. SHORTHORNS: Don’t make the title game, even though they beat number 1…Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. I REALLY LIKE THIS SYSTEM!
4. SATAN’S Warriors: Swapped spots with Florida. Have fun with your gimme win against the UTES…
5. RUBBERS: Oregon State Cost you guys big time…They really did….And the thing is, you don’t even get to improve yourself by beating Penn State…
6. UTAH UTES: Well, this should be interesting. Alabama will crush these guys…This will be the highest point value in my bowl selection pool…
7. Tex Tech: One bad loss can do a lot of damage…
8. PSU: Joe Pa has to beat the Rubbers and Pete Carrol..Good luck with that.
9. Boys’ State: They don’t deserve the bowl they got…
10. Suckeyes: Back to the Fiesta and Texas. Can the Vest win a big one?

IDLE THOUGHTS FROM SATURDAY

1. You gotta like the Army-Navy opening ceremonies. I don’t care who you are.
2. Oklahoma is REALLY GOOD…
3. Tee-Bone will make a good pro – but will he come out if the Lions are drafting first?
4. Chase Daniel’s stock has gone down. I don’t remember him throwing that many INT’s ever….
5. Bradford is good…And he’s only a Sophomore…Look out for the Laters for a couple of years.
6. What happens to the great College QB’s when they get to the Pro’s? I mean, are defenses at that level just that much faster/better? Anyone?
7. Is Tee-Bone done? I mean, assuming they beat the Laters – is he done? National Title in hand? Stock is up? But, to the Lions? He could wait, but I wouldn’t put it past Detroit to go 0-16 next season….
8. Yes – Detroit will go 0-16. I am sure of that.
9. Did Michigan beat that same Florida Team Last Year in the Citrus Bowl? Really? It was just last year? Man, we were good…
10. MICHIGAN HOOPS UPSET DUKE! MICHIGAN HOOPS UPSET DUKE! (I had to get that one in there)
11. If you don’t have a good way to do this, shouldn’t we go back to the old way and let the debates rage year ‘round? Of course, debate will rage in the State of Texas this year. I wouldn’t where anything with an “O” on it in that state…
12. And more from the teams I want to root for file: Stanford wasn't that great this year, but they did beat USC last year...So, yeah, I could root for them...

AND FLORIDA - AGAIN!

HOT SEAT

Well, Again in honor of the National Championship, and in no particular order, here are some Co-Ed hotties wearing the Team Colors….Unfortunately, no ties to the MMQ….But they somehow make me want to root for them, anyway….

GONE LIST
1. T. BOWDEN – GONE
2. Fullmer – GONE – Quit before he could get CANNED….
3. Wilingham – GONE ….Another one bites the dust..
4. AMSTUTZ (Toledo) – GONE After Beating Michigan, he gets CANNED.
5. Brent Guy – UTAH STATE – GONE
6. Robinson – Syracuse – GONE
7. CHUCK LONG – San Diego State – GONE
8. Jeff GENYK – Eastern Michigan – GONE
9. JOE GLENN – WYOMING – GONE
10. TWOTONE - MOM SAYS HE WAS FIRED…If Mom is saying it, it has to be true….

HOT SEAT
1. Spurrier – Game Cocks are looking for a replacement..have to be..
2. Zook - home on New Year's is no way to keep your job for too long..
3. Bielema – Cheeseheads made a bowl, he gets to coach 1 more year.
4. LES MILES – 7 and 5 doesn’t cut it at LSU…
5. RICH ROD – Michigan is a laughingstock…And he can’t fix it next year…
6. GROH: Fires three assistants, including son, and keeps his job – for now.

GETTING WARM:

1. Bill Martin and Mary Sue…until further notice
2. Every other coach that has been eliminated from the 32 bowls that currently exist….

HIRED:
1. Sarkisian – WASHINGTON: USC O-Coordinator. Look to see the pride restored at WMU

THE BOWLS (And My Predictions – I am working my way backwards instead of forwards…I will probably get bored by the time I get to the flea bag bowl the Domers are in and won’t feel like doing this anymore):

1. GATORLAND – LATERS: I like GATORLAND HERE. Urb’s been there. Tee-Bone’s been there. Stoops has a Bowel, er, Bowl problem and has a tendency to crap the bed once it’s made.
2. FIESTA: SUCKEYES vs. SHORTHORNS: Suckeyes could pull the upset. Big 12 does not fair well in this game. But Texas will be PISSED…I will take Texas on the sheet…
3. COTTON: Mississippi vs. Tex Tech: Tex Tech shows Ole Miss how it’s done at home in the cold…
4. SUGAR: Satan vs. Utes: Satan only brings the 2nd string and defeats Utah
5. LIBERTY: ECU vs. Kentucky: I would think I would be hearing Skip Holtz’s name more for open jobs at Division 1A schools besides Syracuse…I am taking ECU.
6. GATOR: CORNHUSKERS vs. CLEMSON: How the Tigers managed a bowl, I will never figure out. Much less a New Year’s Day Bowl….I like Pelini to win his first one here..
7. OUTBACK: Iowa vs. GAMECOCKS: Spurrier loses to Ferentz. Take Iowa to win this one…
8. ORANGE: HOKIES vs. Cincinnatti: Yawn. I can go to bed early….Is this what the Orange has come to? ACC vs. Big East Champ and no one cares? I’ll bet the Orange is REAL HAPPY about THAT….Put me down for the Turkeys…
9. ROSE: PSU vs. Rubbers: Maybe, just maybe, PSU can slow down the Rubbers. But I am taking Rubbers on the sheet.
10. Capital One: MSU vs. Puppy Dogs: So much hype, all wasted. Georgia will be down and SPARTY might be able to surprise them….But it will take everything Sparty has. I will unfortunately, have to put Georgia on my sheet.
11. CHICK FIL A: LMU vs. GTU: Well, The Wramblin’ Wreck gets LSU. Hmm….This is a tuffy…LMU isn’t that good this year and is beatable. But I have to take them against the Wreck…
12. INSIGHT: I am getting bored…Take Minnesota over Kansas.
13. MUSIC CITY: Take Vandy over BC
14. HAWAII: DOMERS AT HAWAII: Take the Rainbows and chalk up another loss for Wuzzles….
15. CHAMPS: Take FSU over the Cheeseheads…No, Make that the Cheeseheads over FSU…

Okay, that’s it….After that, it’s all crap anyway…Notable teams not in a Bowl Game:

Michigan
Illinois
Tennessee
Arkansas
Arizona State
Virginia

Till January….With maybe a zinger in between…

Thursday Afternoon - OR Friday Morning Special

Afternoon Special – Or Friday Morning Special

Well, I was waiting before I sent this edition out. Waiting for 5 things in particular. In no particular order:

1. I was Waiting for Rebellion. Waiting for the Riots to Begin. Waiting for total Bedlam, Mayhem, and outright Rage over on particular issue. Apparently, there is apathy everywhere…Or at least, there’s not enough steam building up behind the forces that need to act to change the sorry State that College Football finds itself in.

If you haven’t been paying attention, I will briefly review: Texas Beat the Laters in the Red River Shootout. Texas lost to Tex Tech at Tex Tech. The Laters then DESTROY Tex Tech at home. And how does the Big 12 Break the tie? By letting the Polls decided who should represent the Big 12 South in the Championship game.

And the polls picked the Laters. Even though they lost to TEXAS! Frankly, I was hoping and PRAYING for this. I thought that once and for all, Texans everywhere would begin demanding a better solution. A better way, A PLAY OFF FOR GOD’S SAKE!

But, there doesn’t seem to be an outrage. Oh, there’s a lot of internet talk and ESPN continues to harp about the unfairness of it all…but still, is this what we have come to in this sport? Letting the polls decide AFTER IT’S DECIDED ON THE FIELD? Can you imagine if in 2006, Michigan would have beat OSU, but just barely, and then Florida and USC would have moved up into the 1-2 spot? Sheesh…What a friggin’ mess…

2. I was waiting for the official sacrifice of the Fatted Weasel, er, Wuzzles, er, Weis at Notra Dumb….But Alas, even though his record is no better than Losingham’s, and the only guys he’s won with were Losingham’s recruits, somehow, this Athletic Department figures that Wuzzles is the right guy for the job…Interesting. And BTW, I AIN’T Buying the story that the buy-out isn’t a big deal. IT’S A BIG DEAL. That’s why they didn’t stick an apple in his mouth and put him on the spit. Even though I think Skip Holz would have been welcomed with open arms by the fans and alumni, you get to look at Charlie for another year…..

3. Tommy Twotone. Well, This one happened. He resigned, which surprises me – and in a way doesn’t. Tommy is a class act. 85-40 over 10 years with an undefeated season in 2004. And I think he will end up on his feet somewhere else. I have said it here before and I will say it again: I think Tommy makes a GREAT Big Ten Coach with his defensive, smash mouth style. And if you DON’T think this was a firing in disguise: Twotone’s buyout will be paid, but not out of University Funds: Read – Rich Alumni wanted him GONE…Jeez, you gotta lover the SEC.

4. And in other SEC news that wasn’t, I really expected to hear something about old Les Miles and his failure this year. I have heard and seen quite a bit on the internet about how the AD should have let Michigan HAVE HIM, can his ass, etc, etc, etc. Yes, what a difference a year would have made. We would have had an SEC style offense and defense coming here with some of the coaches retained and the Michigan traditions and styles intact. Instead, we have…well, I am not really sure what we have…but I am liking it less and less all the time. Don’t for one minute think that the fans and alumni are still basking in the National Title Limelight when their team is 7-5, looking at a flea bag bowl and their former, WELL LOVED Coach Satan has the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship, one win away from a national Title…No, life is not pretty right now for Les Miles….

5. Ditto for Spurrier. I really figured that there would be something by now about getting the Ole Ball Coach out of there….

The Rest of the Mess

DOMERS vs. RUBBERS: Boy, do the Domers suck. And we lost to them. How bad is Michigan? I mean, the Domers didn’t have a first down in the first half. That’s bad. I could go on, but apparently, the AD and others have decided that 6-6 with Flubber is good enough. Oh, by the way, I see USC in the Title Game, but more on that in a minute…

LATERS vs. Cowboys: They earned it, but can anyone be really happy with the situation with the Laters? I mean, they are a great team, but they lost to TEXAS! Come on…

GATORLAND vs.FSU: Bobby Bowden needs to hang it up….It’s over.

SATAN vs. TUBBERVILLE: Unfortunately, Tommy couldn’t pull off the miracle, nor could he save his job. It’s unfortunate, but Satan is one win away from the National Title game…Hard to Believe

HUSKERS – BUFFLAOES: I love this game on Friday. I didn’t call it out last week as a big game as it really didn’t mean anything. But did you watch it? All you needed to see was the last quarter and the 57 yard winning Field Goal to clinch it…That was AWESOME….Huskers earned their moniker finishing 8-4. Pelini is figuring it out….

BCS STANDINGS:

1. ALABAMA
2. LATERS: This sucks…How can you get beaten by TEXAS and be AHEAD OF THEM?
3. SHORTHORNS – Got the Short End, if you get my drift..
4. GATORLAND - Best Team playing right now – too bad about Ole Miss
5. RUBBERS – OKAY – ARE YOU READY FOR THIS? I didn’t think this could happen, but actually, it’s quite simple. The BCS will NOT TAKE a non Championship Team in the 1-2 spot. I think there’s a rule against this now. So, MIZZOU upsets the LATERS. You CAN’T TAKE TEXAS and Therefore, you have to take USC!! Unbelievable, isn’t it?
6. UTAH – RAAAAAAAALPFFFFFF!
7. Tex Tech – I would love to see a Tex Tech Utah Match-up….
8. PENN STATE: Looks like you locked up 8 spot…
9. BOYS STATE –RAAALPFFFFF II
10. Suckeyes

IDLE THOUGHTS FROM SATURDAY

1. It’s easier to watch Football when Michigan isn’t playing…
2. Oklahoma is REALLY GOOD…
3. AUBURN is REALLY BAD…
4. DOMERS fall off the SCALE OF DEFINITION FOR BAD…
5. WHY COULD LLOYD HAVE STAYED ON ONE MORE SEASON OR SOMEONE INTERIMMED FOR 1 MORE GD YEAR! We could be talking to Les Miles Right NOW and getting him for a song…Yes, I would take Les coming off an SEC 7-5 Season over Rich Rod undefeated playing for a National Title….Sorry, that’s just the Michigan Man Talking….
6. USC will DESTROY PSU if that happens….
7. Speaking of USC, of all the cheerleaders and hotties we reviewed, by Golly, they were the hottest – Doncha' ya' think????
8. But UCLA AIN'T THAT BAD, EITHER!
What a Rivalry!

This week’s hot seat mascot: Mila Kunis! When searching for “That 70’s Show” star Laura Prepon, well, Mila just popped up. And even though there is no viable Michigan Connection, well, you know, she’s…..

HOT!

2. LATERS vs. MIZZOU: This might be the upset of the week…
3. RUBBERS vs. UCLA: Always a good game that USC finds ways to lose…
4. BC vs. VA TECH: Can the HOKIES pull off the upset and become the only unranked team in a BCS Game?
