Kareem Walker and Tyrone Wheatley
Leave
In a somewhat expected and un-expected
moves, Kareem Walker transferred to a Juco school and Tyrone Wheatley Jr.
walked off the team on the eve of the first day of camp. Walker was expected as rumors continued to
circle about his abilities (or lack there of) in the class room. Wheatley showed up to camp over 300+ Lbs. and
didn’t want to move from his tight end position to either the O or D Line…So it
sounds like he wasn’t going to see much playing time anyway.
As Suspected, The “Bucknuts” Are
Rallying Behind Urban
And a surprising supporter from
PSU:
I will admit I saw this coming,
but this is really quick. Before
Courtney’s scars have faded, the Jay & the Bucknuts are rallying to save
their coach with the argument that this was a domestic issue, it wasn’t a
student or student athlete, let the law handle legal disputes, etc. Again, 10 years ago, maybe. Today?
You’re screwed. And
frankly, Meyer knew and should have been managing and keeping a close eye on
Smith the entire time he was on staff.
Especially once it happened the first time.
Pete Thamel Spoke With Some
Attorneys
In “real Reporting” at Yahoo
Sports, Pete Thamel spoke with several lawyers on this issue and it’s an
interesting read.
In short, a lot is going to ride
on what
Meyer knew and when he knew it, which, obviously. Shelly did NOT have a responsibility to
report the incident under Title IX and Courtney CANNOT bring a Title IX suit
against the suckeyes.
Dan Wetzel Lays Out How Deep
Meyer Is In This Mess
Wetzel put together a pretty good
scenario and timeline of all the crap Smith was doing and getting away with and
Meyer enabled. It’s as simple as that
really. Meyer, IMHO, is screwed either
way: Either he knew about 2015 and he
was lying, or, and this is where I’d be more concerned if I was Urban, when the
question comes from the investigators,
“Why DIDN’T you know and why weren’t
you following this issue and make it a top priority because you KNEW from 2009 what
kind of animal you were dealing with?”
Yep, that’s going to be a toughy
for Urban to answer. Why he didn’t know
vs. knowing.
I’m still puzzled as to why he lied,
assuming he lied, about not knowing in 2015.
He should have said there was another incident, Smith this is your 2nd
strike and then when he violated the restraining order in July, he could have
said that was strike 3. Yeah, he’d take
a little heat for giving the guy a 2nd chance in 2015, but Urb would
still have a job and a career.
Now, because of one screw up that he thought he could “manage”, Meyer is
done.
My take….
It’s Your Job To Know
Brian over
at mgoblog summed it up nicely:
Pitino, Lou Anna K. Simon, JoPa, Dantinnon, Izzo, Hollis, and
Urban are supposed to know what the hell is going on. And for the most part, they probably do. But you can’t run and try to hide when the
tires hit the pavement.
So, How Long Does This Drag Out?
I would be personally trying to wrap this up as
quickly as possible and not have it hanging over the university any longer than
is necessary. However, I also want to
make sure I’ve looked under every rock and have seen every detail associated
with this mess so nothing comes back and bites me in the keister.
Bob Evans Pulls Meyer From
Web Page Just Two Days After Getting Him to Endorse
Two days after getting Meyer to endorse Bob
Evans Restaurants and grub, they’ve pulled his likeness off their website with
the disclaimer:
The link has since been deleted
describing the campaign with the Buckeyes coach.
"At Bob Evans, we strongly believe in the family first values upon
which the company was founded," the company said in a statement Thursday.
The Meyer Household Cannot Be a Happy Place
Nope, not happy at all. I’m
sure that Urban and Shelly have both read McMurphy’s report by now and have
seen the “Texts” that Urb claims he didn’t know anything about. I’m sure mild mannered, calm, cool and
collected Urb didn’t have anything to say to Shelly if in fact he was seeing
the texts for the first time.
I always think of this scene whenever shit starts hitting the
fan….
