PSU Helicopter Buzzing Tailgaters - Follow Up
Well,
finally, someone with a spot of brains at PSU.
The Federal Aviation
Administration said it is looking into a complaint about the incident that
occurred before last weekend's game against Ohio State but declined to provide
any details about its investigation.
FAA regulations on minimum safe
altitudes for aircraft say pilots should remain at least 1,000 feet (304
meters) above congested areas or above open-air assemblies. Helicopters can be
flown lower if it can be done safely and in compliance with FAA routes and
altitudes. At any event, pilots must remain high enough to be able to land
without harming people or property if a power unit fails.
It
would appear that flying the Helicopter over the Tailgate Field is now kaput at
PSU. Which, duh. Some lawyers must have finally got to these
idiots and said that the liability (and potential death!!) they were opening themselves up to was colossal. I mean, wasn’t Sandusky enough for one decade
– century?
Penn State announced a change in its game day
enforcement plan.
“In the aftermath of the deployment of game day safety and security
measures, the decision has been made to discontinue use of a helicopter to make
crowd announcements at football games pending an assessment,” Penn State Police
and Public Safety said in a statement on Tuesday. “We will continue to confer
with state police, and evaluate steps taken, which is our normal practice.”
The biggest issue was some student going all “Mongo”
on a police horse and that more or less started the overall ruckus…
When tailgaters refused to
disperse, state police said they deployed personnel, including the Pennsylvania
State Police Tactical Mounted Unit. That’s when, police said, the crowd turned
unruly. One mounted officer fractured his left hand as Penn State police say he
tried to “subdue” a man who assaulted his police horse.
Joseph Oleynik, 21, faces a felony charge as
Penn State police say he approached the trooper’s horse on three occasions and
“struck the animal on the left side with his hand.”

Diggs is out for the season after breaking his foot. Bama was thin in their secondary to begin
with so losing Diggs leaves even more of a hole in Bama’s Pass Defense.

(almost guaranteed, but they still have to play the game) seeing as how they
have the powerhouse Bethune Cookman on the schedule on October 27th. The better question might be: Which coach is going to win a game that
MATTERS first. And each team has
games remaining on the schedule that matter.
If I had to place a bet, I’d take Frost.
Kelly’s Heroes look friggin’ AWFUL and I just don’t see UCLA beating
anyone.

love it when a plan comes together! Granted,
it wasn’t a total win week, but we HIT THAT PARLAY!!! Woohoo!

was doing what they needed to do to THE STU and then things fell apart in the 2nd
half. THE STU is banged up, but I have a
feeling the PSU hangover is done. But

first saw it. Colorado is undefeated and is 4-1 ATS. USC has struggled at home, on the road, and is

direction. Oh, to trust Colorado…

what’s traditionally been a tight game.
But, I learned my lesson last week in Blacksburg…Or is VaTech just that

LNU @ PSU (-13.5): Oh, this looks like an incredible Vegas
Gift! LNU cannot rush the ball and that’s
a big problem. LNU also has some guys banged up on both sides
of the ball and PSU wants to get back to its winning ways. LNU’s leading rush defense will force McSorely
to abuse the LNU secondary. I didn’t put
this game in the next section because I just can’t envision the upset happening
in Happy Valley.

even teams, Autzen Stadium counts for 3 points.
So it’s a coin flip. I don’t know who to trust here, but for the
Pac 12 to have any chance of getting a team to the CFP, one of these teams
needs to win this game and then win out.
That’s a tall order for anyone, but I think the Quack Attack still might
be a season away.

Georgia @ LSU (+7.5): This
would have been SO MUCH BETTER FOR LSU had this been a night game. It’ll still be loud as a 3:30 game, but... While not necessarily an eliminator
game for Georgia, it’s definitely MUST WIN TIME for LSU at home in
Tiger Stadium. I like the Tigers here,
looking for a little revenge after tripping at Gatorland. Question is:

47) Michigan did EXACTLY what they were supposed
to do to Maryland last week. And
I have a sneaking suspicion that they are capable of doing the same thing this
week to a Wiscy team that is banged up on Defense. Expect to see a LOT MORE SHEA PATTERSON dissecting Zone
Defenses in the next three games, which we began with Maryland and is
Wiscy’s bread and butter, also. The
KEY to the Game? Stopping Wiscy’s
running game. And according to Seth

THINK Don Brown will know how to stop the Wiscy rushing attack. So, then it becomes a very simple question: Which Alex Hornibrook shows up in a hostile night time environment at
the Big House? If it’s the pinpoint accuracy
Hornibrook that threads needles into Michigan’s Man Coverage, Michigan’s
in BIG TROUBLE. If it’s the Hornibrook
that wilts under this type of pressure (or the one that showed up for BYU), it
could be a long evening for the Cheeseheads…

This IS BS!!! Third “Party” Over Rules Targeting
So, 4 of the 5 Power Conferences (not the B1G)
have a “Command Center” similar to the NFL, Hockey and MLB that can
review critical plays and calls during the days games. There was a call of targeting that was called
on the field, confirmed in the game booth, but OVERTURNED by the Command
Center. Why it’s so suspicious?
It was a clear enough call that both the in-stadium replay officials
and the replay officials in the Pac-12’s command center in San Francisco ruled
the play as a targeting penalty, according to an internal replay report
obtained by Yahoo Sports. This call would have ejected Tago from the game. An
independent veteran official who viewed the play also told Yahoo Sports it was
“clear targeting.”
Targeting wasn’t called and
Tago stayed in the game. The replay report obtained by Yahoo Sports states that
“unfortunately a third party did not agree” with the call. That “third party”
was Pac-12 general counsel and senior vice president of business affairs Woodie
Dixon, Yahoo Sports sources have confirmed.
Dixon oversees football for
the conference but is not a formally trained official. Dixon telephoned in his
opinion that the play wasn’t targeting, sources said. According to the report,
his opinion overruled both the trained officials in the stadium replay booth
and in the league’s command center.
The “third party” interference sparked outrage in the officiating
world, where a buzz quickly spread about the incident.
“It’s unheard of,” said
Terry McAulay, the rules analyst for NBC who spent 10 years as a coordinator of
officials for the Big East and AAC. “I was appalled when I heard. The autonomy
of officiating needs to be absolute. When there’s pressure from the outside
brought to bear, it threatens the integrity of the game.”
Initially Pac 12 Commissioner Scott told the
Associated Press, “This was a very, very close one, no doubt about it.” He got
heavily criticized for that, as ESPN analyst
Desmond Howard asked:
“Do they drug test commissioners?”
This more or less boils down to one thing: Favortism for certain teams and the rule and
penalty for targeting needs to change to what the MMQ stated earlier.
Big mess in the Pac 12.
