Domers
vs. Stanford:
Stanford put a death blow on the Domers on Saturday, defeating them rather
soundly. The NDNation Trolls are out in
force demanding $warbrick’$ and Kelly’s heads on platters. There as even a post trying to get the troops
rallied like Tennessee did to “Take back the Program!” The latest, greatest coaching rumor: Former OU Coach Bob Stoops buying two houses in
Chicago. (So he could watch his
senior high school son play football this season). Ranked in the top 4 had shut the doubters up
for a while, but now they’re rallying. Opening with Michigan next season (if Michigan
can pull that win off) will start them out on the right foot.
Egg
Bowl: Ole Miss upset
MSU in a heated game right before MSU learned that it was losing its head coach
to Florida. Watch MSU closely as they search
for a coach. They made a good
hire in Mullen and I expect them to do the same again. UPDATE: Moorhead (OC from PSU) Rumored to be hired at
MSU!!!
Vanderbilt
vs. Tennessee: Hoke is
now 0-2 at Tennessee. I don’t think he’s
going to get the job permanently. And Tennessee
is winless in the SEC for the first time since joining the league in 1933.
Sparty
@ Rutgers: Not much to see here as
Sparty did what pretty much everyone else has done to Rutgers this season. And kudos on a nice turnaround
from last season’s forgettable 3-9 to a mirror like 9-3. I don’t know how long Chris Ash is going to get at
Rutgers, but if he would have waited there were way better jobs
available this season…
Barret
And The Mysterious Camera-Man
I kind of ignored this on Monday as it seemed like
a whole lotta nuthin, but the story seems to have legs. Barret was apparently run over in pre-game warm-ups
by one of the many “Hoards of Media” people that were on the field. From the Legend’s Mouth:
It SOUNDED like Urban Legend was taking a shot
at Michigan in general (similar to how Harbaugh Ripped on Purdue) about the
safety of the field during the pre-game warm-up. I guess I’m surprised that the Camera Man hasn’t
come forth and revealed himself. If
he had a field pass, hey, he was clean and had a right to be there. That he accidentally ran into Barret is
unfortunate, but accidents happen. Just
think it would be interesting to know who the mystery man is and why he hasn’t
come forward. Barret himself stated it wasn’t
intentional.
Or did someone hire the Tonya Harding crew to “Nancey
Kerrigan” Barret out of the Game???

Great article by Bill Connely and what can happen when you
fire winning coaches (looking at you Texas A&M and Arizona State,
both firing their coaches go with 7-5 records)
For schools with lesser advantages, impatience almost
never pays off.
- On the heels of 11- and nine-win seasons, Boston College pushed
Jeff Jagodzinski out because he deigned to interview for other jobs. They
were 2-10 four years later and haven’t reached nine wins since.
- Ron Zook took Illinois to nine wins and a Rose
Bowl in 2007, and after a two-year reset, got them back to 7-6 in both
2010 and 2011. He was fired. Illinois has averaged 3.7 wins per year
since.
- Dan McCarney won at least seven games five times in a six-year
span at Iowa State but was let go after a 4-8 downturn in
2006. ISU has not topped seven wins since, though that could change with
an upcoming bowl game.
- Ralph Friedgen took Maryland to seven bowls in 10
years, and after a two-win collapse in 2009, rebounded to nine wins in
2010. Maryland has averaged 4.7 wins per year since firing him.
- NC State pushed Tom O'Brien out in 2012 after 24 wins in three years.
Their best three-year win total since: 22.
- David Cutcliffe won seven or more games for five straight years
at Ole Miss, peaking with a 10-win campaign in 2003. But after
a 4-7 reset in 2004, he was fired. The Rebels would top four wins twice in
the next seven years.
- Pitt pushed Dave Wannstedt out after after 26 wins in three
years. The Panthers have averaged 6.6 wins since.
- Phil Fulmer took Tennessee to
15 bowls and five SEC championship games in 16 years. He won the national
title in 1998 and won at least eight games 14 times. He fell to 5-6 in
2005 but rebounded back to 10 wins in 2007. After a second five-win reset
in 2008, he was fired. The Vols have hit the eight-win mark twice
in the nine years since.

I really enjoy it when someone else’s tire fire of a
program is flying into the ground. I
know I shouldn’t take pleasure in other’s misfortunes, but I feel like nobody
was feeling too sorry for anyone in Ann Arbor as the Michigan Family endured
Bill Martin, Bran Dictator and everything else that was going on.
Tennessee continues to outdo themselves on the clown car
cavalcade. First the twitter madness
when Schiano was almost hired. Then Cutcliff
from Duke (who coached in Knoxville with Fullmer for 18 seasons) said, “Uh-uh”. THEN, the reports of Gundy leaving OSU (he
won’t) for Tennessee for an offer of $42M over 6 years. Doesn’t everyone remember that Gundy played
at OSU? And turned Tennessee down in
2012?
And has a son in high school
there, not to mention his parents still reside in Stillwater?
And where’s the VolRage over Gundy recruiting and
playing a player that was eventually convicted of having sex with a 12 year old
girl when he was 17??? Oh, yeah, Gundy
has winning record…
Hypocrites.
I believe what you’re seeing Currie do is more or less run around
and offer the job and $42M over 6 seasons to every big-name coach out there to see
who bites and to also cover his ass when he has to either hire Hoke or some
other top coordinator. Tennessee
fans need to be beat over the head that it’s not a great gig, and the fans
acting the way they do don’t help.

Trustee Comes Out In Defense of Schiano
Things got ugly on Sunday in Tennessee and Twitter and the
universe exploded when the “story” emerged on Greg Schiano being somehow linked
to Sandsusky and the cover up. Anthony
Lubrano wrote a nice letter in support of Schiano.
I get that Vol Fans were looking for ANY EXCUSE to not
hire Schiano. I remember not being that
fired up about him when his name was getting thrown around for the Michigan
job. But you really shouldn’t
run with something that’s not true and drags a man’s name through the mud just
to get your way. Social media,
folks. The Inmates are running the
Asylum now…

Looks Like The Committee Will Get Bailed Out Again…
There was so much talk a month ago about two teams from the
same conference getting in, but that is all it was. Talk. The
argument for Bama is a weak one, especially when you take away the name and
just look at record, SOS and stats. Not the outcome if you wanted CHAOS!!!! Annnnnd maybe the SEC will get a little more
serious about scheduling. SOS
counts...

Golden Gophers Almost LOSE to a
3-Man Alabama Squad!
Saw this in a related post and I don’t know
how I missed it when it happened.
Apparently, there was a kerfuffle on the court in the 2nd
half and the Bama bench left their seats and took a few steps on the
court to break up the donnybrook. No big
deal, but the refs had to eject all of them for leaving the bench. Then, a player from Bama fouled out and
another one rolled his ankle, taking the squad down to 3 with 10 minutes left
in the game! And they almost
won!!!
